The new TÜV Rheinland subsidiary TÜV Rheinland Solar GmbH has started operations on November 1, 2021. The new company is part of the globally operating Products Business Stream in the Solar & Commercial Products Business Field. “Establishing the new company will facilitate the networking among our globally active colleagues in the solar sector – for the benefit of our customers,” explains Thomas Haupt, Regional Business Field Manager for Germany and Eastern and Western Europe at TÜV Rheinland and authorized signatory of the newly founded company.

World market leader in testing for the solar industry

This realignment is a logical move: The energy transition will accelerate considerably in the next few years, and solar energy will play a major role in this globally. Establishing the new company TÜV Rheinland Solar GmbH is a key element in further expanding the position that the globally active testing service provider has built up in the market over the past decades.

TÜV Rheinland has been accompanying the development of solar technology for more than 40 years and today employs 250 experts to minimize technical and qualitative risks in solar power plants as well as in specialized testing laboratories and competence centers worldwide. The experts develop new test methods, collaborate on research and development projects and in standardization committees for the use of solar energy. They provide services worldwide on the feasibility, financing, quality assurance and handling of warranty claims for photovoltaic power plants, and enable international market access through testing and certification for photovoltaic modules, components, inverters as well as energy storage systems and solar thermal collectors.

In 1985, TÜV Rheinland started technical testing of solar components on a laboratory scale. Today, TÜV Rheinland’s network includes recognized test laboratories for photovoltaic modules for power generation, solar collectors for heat generation, storage systems, inverters as well as components. As a leading testing service provider for solar systems, TÜV Rheinland operates laboratories in Bangalore (India), Cologne (Germany), Milan (Italy), Shanghai (China), Taichung (Taiwan), and Pleasanton (USA), among others. The competence network for solar energy also includes 15 expert centers in Africa, America, Asia and Europe.
